INGREDIENTS
4 tbspButter
1 medOnion diced fine
2 medTomatoes chopped
1 tspCumin powder
1 tspTurmeric powder
1 tspGaram Masala
2 tspGinger - Garlic Paste
1/8 tspChili powder to taste
1 tspSalt to taste
6 cupsWater
2 cupsDry Masoor Lentils
1 tbspLight Brown sugar (optional)


PREPARATION
In a pressure cooker(no lid), saute onion in butter on medium low heat. Cook until light brown. Add tomatoes and cook a few minutes.
Add cumin, turmeric, masala, ginger/garlic, salt, chili. Mix well.
Add water and lentils. Mix well. Put flame on medium high, close lid and place whistle/weight on top.
Once weight starts wobbling reduce heat to low and cook 15 minutes.
Remove from heat and set aside 20 minutes before opening cooker.
If adding boiled potatoes and/or brown sugar, add them now.


Cooking Tips: When cooker is opened add additional water to create a light slurry.
Serving Tips: Add a pat of butter on serving plate to add flavor. Best served with roti, naan or other favorite bread product.
